Your assignment is to complete all 4 of the quizzes by Sunday night (12/16) at midnight. There are 2 reading comprehension quizzes and 2 listening comprehension quizzes. Do your very best on these. Please email me if you have any questions. If you didn't do last week's assignment, look under the week 9 assignment for how to set up a Quia account.

Weekly Assignment #9

First off, don't forget to do your square root curve assignment. As a reminder, read through the article and then translate all of the questions and answers into English. Then go ahead and choose the answer you think is correct. Don't use a translation service to do this for you. Look up words that you might not know using an online dictionary such as Word Reference.

Now, for this week's assignment. It will be a little different, but trust me, by doing it, it will help you prepare for the test on Monday as best as you can. Take your time and put some effort into it. Vocabulary is the biggest struggle that many of you have when it comes to reading and listening. Therefore, I have created a "flashcard/matching" activity through the website Quia, which has words that will appear on the test in some form (written or verbal), with which you might not be as familiar. What you will need to do is create a free Quia account, following the instructions below. Then, between now and Monday morning, you will need to spend a minimum of 30 minutes reviewing the flashcards or doing the matching activity. Click on the link for AP Spanish 4, then choose the "Test Prep Practice". (Don't worry, it keeps track of the time for you.) Follow the instructions below and use your real name, so I can give you credit. It asks for an email, use your school email address. As always, email me if you have any difficulties.

Instructions for setting up an account and linking it to my class:
Your instructor requests that you enroll in the following class:
Class:AP Spanish 4
Code: EDMX484

Step 1. Go to the Quia website at http://www.quia.com/web.

Step 2. Now, click the area labeled Students. When the next page appears, enter your username and password if you already have a Quia account. If you do not have an account, click the link Create my free account. Fill out the form that appears. Select "Student" as the account type. When you are done, press the Create my account button.

Step 3. You should now be in the Student Zone. Type in the class code EDMX484 in the text field and press the Add class button. Now you're done!

Now that you have registered for your instructor's course, you can view your class web page, take quizzes, view your quiz results, view time spent on Quia activities, and read your instructor's feedback from your Quia account.

Follow these steps to view your results:

Step 1. Log in to your account. (Remember, go to the Quia Web home page at http://www.quia.com/web and click the area labeled Students.)

Step 2. Click on the class name.

Click here to do the preterite/imperfect practice exercise. When finished, complete the form below.

Speaking practice: choose one of the following "temas" to talk about. You will then have 5 minutes to prepare your thoughts, then you will speak for 2 minutes on the topic (in Spanish, duh!). You will record them using JD Voicemail. When you have finished, wait until I check with you before saving or closing out of the program.
1. ¿Cree que viajar hace que uno aprecie más a su país? ¿Por qué?
2. Si pudiera ser embajador(a) de Estados Unidos en algún país hispanohablante, ¿adónde le gustaría ir? ¿Por qué?
3. Explique cómo los viajes o ideas de los exploradores, inventores, escritores, viajeros o historiadores han tenido un impacto en la vida de los demás.

When finished, go to the unit 3 tab on this blog and look at the instructions for the commercials. You will then have the rest of the class to work on these. Don't forget that we will have a test next class, which will have some reading, listening and speaking on it. Be sure to complete the square root curve ticket and also do your weekly assignment on here. It will help with the test as well.

Click here and type in the words from the vocab list to see some of the definitions, which might be the exact same as you will find on your quiz. Also, don't forget to review your imperfect conjugations.

Weekly Assignment #4

For this week's assignment, you are going to write a personal ad (think eHarmony) about yourself in Spanish. Using the form below, write about yourself, your interests and what you like or don't like. Then, describe the ideal person that you are trying to find, either as a friend or for a date. The paragraph should be entirely in Spanish, should be your own work (no Google Translations or otherwise), and should be a minimum of 100 words (Just as a note, these instructions are about 100 words in length). Pay attention to your present-tense conjugations and ser v. estar. Try to use as much vocabulary as possible, including the transition words from vocab list #3. This is due by Sunday night, September 23, at midnight. Also, if you are not sure how to use accent marks, you can look on the right-hand side of my blog to see the shortcuts.

Also, there is going to be a writing and speaking assessment in class on Tuesday and the vocab quiz in class on Thursday, which will have some present-tense conjugations (including stem-changers) and ser v. estar. To help you prepare for the speaking, you can practice beforehand by clicking on the player below. Click here to see the directions and the outline of the conversation. Remember, this is for practice, but your assessment on Tuesday will look very similar to this. You can also come in for tutorials to practice with me on Monday.
